Child and Adolescent Psychologist
Dr. Katrina “Kat” Markowicz is a Child and Adolescent Psychologist who earned her undergraduate degree in Honors Psychology from Wayne State University and received her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University with a concentration in Child and Adolescent Psychology. Dr. Markowicz completed her predoctoral internship at Children’s Mercy Kansas City, followed by an additional postdoctoral fellowship at the same institution.
Dr. Markowicz has received broad clinical training across diverse settings, including integrated primary care, multidisciplinary medical teams, and traditional outpatient therapy and assessment clinics. She has developed specialized expertise in working with youth with neurodivergent identities, LGBTQ+ youth, children and teens with endocrine-related conditions, and those with complex medical or behavioral health needs. Her clinical interests include ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, anxiety, behavioral sleep concerns, identity development, and supporting youth with medical conditions.
Dr. Markowicz takes a collaborative, evidence-based, culturally responsive, and strengths-based approach to therapy that is individually tailored to each child and teen. She strives to create a warm, validating space where youth and their families feel safe, empowered, and respected. Her primary treatment approaches include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and behavior modification strategies, while also integrating elements from other evidence-based modalities as appropriate to assist youth in meeting their unique treatment goals.
Dr. Markowicz also enjoys conducting psychological assessments for a wide range of referral questions. She has specialized experience assessing for neurodevelopmental and psychological disorders such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), specific learning disorders (SLDs), anxiety disorders, and mood disorders. At the end of each assessment, Dr. Markowicz approaches feedback as a collaborative process, offering clear, compassionate, and practical guidance to help families and care teams understand a child’s unique strengths and areas for support.
Overall, Dr. Markowicz is deeply committed to providing inclusive, identity-affirming services and works to ensure that every child and family she works with feels supported, respected, and heard. She is also passionate about advocacy and advancing health equity within systems of care.
Outside of work, Dr. Markowicz enjoys trying new restaurants, playing board and tabletop games, practicing aerial circus arts, spending time in nature, kayaking, dancing, and reading fantasy novels. She also loves exploring the Kansas City area and spending time with her fiancé and cats.
